2027 Chevy Silverado 1500 Redesign

Chevy Silverado 1500 has been one of the most common trucks on the road, but it’s been time for something new, a 2027 Model. Although, I won’t lie that I’ve been hoping for a complete, redesigned 5th generation overhaul on the 2027 model instead of minor, mid-update refreshes.

For the past couple of years, I’ve seen GM truck prototype models that have been patented and spy shots with covered up designs. I am excited to say that I have seen Chevy’s reach make unprecedented improvements to its major truck model this year.

Exterior Design

The bold exterior is the first change you will notice. After looking at the patent images, I think it’s awesome that Chevy is updating their style with sharper, more edges, and modern, industrial, inspired designs.

Usually, I think softer curves have an appealing look, however, I think the flatter edges with sharper curves give the 2027 additions a much bolder and purposeful look.

Following are some of the key highlights:

  • The Taller Grille: Chevy is also updating their taller, rectangular grille. I think the idea of ultra-slim, high-mounted, and tightly framed daytime running lights is awesome.
  • The SUV Lighting: Chevy also placed large C-shaped headlights on lower part of the front end. let me tell you that this adds a refined look, uniting the trucks with Chevy’s new full-size SUV’s, the Tahoe and Suburban.
  • The Tougher Look: The combination of the wider look from the sculpted hood and the squared-off wheel arches, gives the whole truck a wider and tougher look.
  • A Tougher Bumper: Chevy’s signature CornerStep rear bumper has also gotten a squared look. If you’ve ever had to jump in the Chevy truck bed with muddy work boots, you understand that this is a functional win.

Interior Upgrades

The interior is one area where I thought the Silverado needed to improve to beat out the competition. I thought the cabin would be surrounded by high end materials and high end design with tech integrated. With the recent leaks, it seems like Chevy is accomplishing that.

  • The Panoramic Display: The Silverado is going to have the driver’s digital gauge and the infotainment screen combined in the entire Silverado dash. This is inspired from the Silverado’ EVdesign.
  • The Column Shifter is Back: All of that space previously occupied by the center console will be taken up by design and distraction. It’s going to be a mobile office, and the storage space will be in the bins between the seats.
  • Upgraded Software: Chevy has made the right choice to adopt a more modern, faster, and better architecture design for their infotainment system. People that don’t instantly adapt for the future are buying their products.

Powertrain & Performance

For old-school fans like me, the biggest announcement is what’s under the hood. Chevy is launching its brand new sixth-generation Small-Block V8 engine family. While I think balancing traditional V8 power with modern fuel efficiency is a huge engineering challenge, the early signs from Chevy have me optimistic. Powertrain options will be:

  • New 5.7L V8 (Replacing the 5.3L)
  • New 6.6L V8 (Replacing the 6.2L)
  • 2.7L TurboMax I4
  • 3.0L Duramax Diesel

Platform

The 2027 model transitions to GM’s updated T1-2 body-on-frame platform. Now, I completely agree with the choice to keep a traditional solid rear axle and leaf springs because you will need that for serious payload and towing. However, I suggested a long time ago that Chevy needed to fix the “bed hop” when the truck is empty.

Fortunately, the suspension geometry, bushings, and damper tuning have improved. I believe even the smallest enhancements will help soften the harshness of the ride when commuting without any weight on it. On top of that, I believe the upgrades on the steering and braking systems will help the truck feel much more like an effortless, comfortable daily driver.

For the weekend warriors, I believe the off-road enhancements like all-terrain tires and additional clearance found on the TB and ZR2 will be awesome features coming to the end users directly from the factory.
