There has been a lot of buzz about the new Oura Ring 5, and from what I can tell, these updates are exactly the kind of changes we all were looking for.
You want to look at the history of smart rings, wearables are great, but no one wants to wear a clunky, nasty ring that you have to keep in your finger all day. but that is not an issue with the new Oura Ring 5.
The all new Oura Ring 5 is just 6.09 mm and 2.28 mm with the smaller sizes weighing 2 grams. The biggest size is still only 2.69 grams. This is fully tech packed and 2.69 grams? This is, in my opinion, impressive.
That being said, the size doesn’t fascinate me as much as the whole thing does. how they have managed to keep this ring 40% smaller than other wearables available in the market. Report says, Oura has redesigned everything in small size including its battery, sensors, structure etc.

Changes in Oura Ring 5
The biggest change in the ring 5 a reduction of number of optical signal pathways from 18 to12 from the ring 4 model. Reducing the number of pathways allowed them to add way more powerful/advanced LEDs, along with lower profile sensor domes.
Also, the Ring 5 is shaped and engineered to sit more closely against the wearer’s skin, allowing for a cleaner starting signal to be captured.
For me, this idea of cleaner signals is brilliant because it also means that the software won’t have to work too hard in order to filter out background signal noise. This results in less processing time for the chip. The Oura ring 5 is has the 9-day battery life, that too even after decreasing the size of the battery.
Design Changes & Subscription
This generation has more design tweaks and I like that. The Deep Rose finish is authentic and feels more premium than the gold or bronze finish which they used to sale. Now, the shape is more rounded and the the bumpy sensors inside are less pronounced.
The interior and exterior are titanium (non-allergenic) and the coating is an even more durable PVD making it scratchproof and has water resistance upto 100 meters of water.
Before I jump to the software, which, in my opinion, is the best part, let’s take a look at the price.
The Oura Ring 5 Cost Breakdown:
- Standard Finishes: $399 (A $50 increase)
- Premium Finishes: $499
- Monthly Subscription: $5.99/month (or $69.99/year)
- Optional Aluminum Charging Case: $99
Let me just say, the new price is a bitter medicine to swallow. Yes, Oura still gives a free regular charger in the box, but charging extra $99 for the aluminum case (and the bonus is it has 5 full charges) is ridiculous. I see mixed reviews online. Some think the new design looks amazing, but I think price for these upgrades is unjustified.
Does it worth buying Oura Ring 5?
While you’re deciding whether the physical ring is worth your hard-earned money, I suggest looking closely at the software, because I think this is the actual headline. (Thankfully, it appears many of these features will also be available on older generation Oura rings, too).
The old radar system has been swapped out with the Health Radar. This new background feature will analyze your health for trends that can identify problems that you might not catch for yourself until symptoms actually arise.
There is new feature where they track heart rate at night rather than the relying on finger pricks to make inaccurate and inconvenient check-ins. Oura takes in consideration of your sleep and nighttime blood pressure dips to lessen the amount of cardiovascular strain your heart has to endure.
They’ve also added many features to help analyze your breathing at night. They will now help you check in on your long-term respiratory health, and help you analyze how disturbances in your breathing can affect your recovery and add to the overall stress in your life throughout the day.
Clinical Integration
If you’re in the United States, you’ll be able to connect Oura ring 5 data app with the healthcare system of your liking and gain easy access to your medical records and healthcare information.
