The legendary Hyundai Creta is in trouble. The alarm bells have rung for Creta because of the market leader in the mid-size SUV segment. The Tata’s Sierra is India’s first car to undergo a car-to-car real-world crash test.

It launched at an introductory price of 11.49 lakh with booking to be started on December 16th, and deliveries began on January 15th. With the look, interior, features, safety, powertrain, and price of the Sierra revealed, it seems Tata has unveiled a contender to dominate this segment. So, can the legend Sierra defeat the king Creta? Let’s compare Sierra with Creta.
Engine & Performance

Lets start our comparison with the engine details and performance figures. Tata for the first time 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine with 106 PS power and 145 Nm torque. Sierra comes with six speed manual and seven speed automatic DCT transmission giving good options to its buyers.
On the other hand you will get 1.5L naturally aspirated petrol engine in the entry level Creta. this produces 115 PS power and 144 Nm torque which is almost similar to Tata’s Sierra. Here also you get six-speed manual and IVT transmission so there is no much difference in terms of the engine specifications.
In the naturally aspirated petrol engine, Creta offers more power compared to Sierra. While Sierra provides slightly more torque than Creta. That means in the naturally aspirated petrol engine, king Creta proves to be more powerful. But in transmission, Sierra is better. it offers DCT transmission even with the naturally aspirated petrol engine, whereas Creta does not. That’s why performance-wise Creta has an advantage, and transmission-wise Sierra has the edge.
Lets have the look at the powerful petrol engines being offered in the upper variants of both of these vehicles. Tata Sierra has got a new 1.5L turbo GDi petrol engine which produces 160 PS power and 255 Nm torque however this engine only comes with automatic transmission. On the flip side Creta offers 1.5L turbo GDi petrol engine which offers 160 PS power and 253 Nm torque. offering similar performance figures to the Tata Sierra.
In both Sierra and Creta, the turbo GDi engines offer equal power. Sierra provides slightly more torque than Creta, giving it an advantage. While Creta offers DCT with the turbo GDi engine, Sierra has automatic transmission. Thus, transmission-wise Creta has the advantage.
Dimensions Comparison

| Feature | Tata Sierra | Hyundai Creta | Winner |
|---|---|---|---|
| Length (mm) | 4340 | 4330 | Sierra |
| Width (mm) | 1841 | 1790 | Sierra |
| Height (mm) | 1715 | 1635 | Sierra |
| Wheelbase (mm) | 2730 | 2610 | Sierra |
| Ground Clearance (mm) | 205 | 199 | Sierra |
| Boot Space (L) | 622 | 433 | Sierra |
| Fuel Tank (L) | 50 | 50 | Tie |
| Max Tyre Size (inch) | 19 | 18 | Sierra |
Tata Sierra beats Creta in every dimension with margins in length, width, height, and wheelbase—providing best-in-class headroom, shoulder room, knee room, rear seat space, and overall cabin.
Sierra also excels in ground clearance, boot space, and tyre size. Higher GC gives confidence on bad roads, biggest boot for long tours, larger tyres for stability. Creta matches only fuel tank; overall, Sierra has lots of advantages over the Hyundai Creta in terms of the dimensions.

Tata Sierra starts at 11.49 lakh (top ~21 lakh ex-showroom) while Hyundai Creta starts at 10.73-20.20 lakh. You might think that base model Sierra is around 75k costlier than the base model Creta but let me tell you that in this higher cost you get lots of new practical features.
